Morning coffee

Saturday morning, Indian Summer weather, and Moving Day. Couldn’t sleep so I got up early and made coffee. Although I have four books that I am currently juggling, another one of my favorites popped into my head just now. I read the last book in the series several years ago and ever since then, I’ve been hoping a new one would be published. Douglas J. Preston and Lincoln Child‘s Pendergast series is the X-File of the mystery and horror genre with each book introducing some macabre and unbelievable twist to some poor victim’s everyday life. Aloysius Pendergast, heir to an old Bayou family home and its twisted memories, teams up with Detective Lieutenant Vincent D’Agosta, a cynical Italian New Yorker who eventually learns to believe in things that go bump in the night. Despite the obvious differences in style, breeding, and schooling, these two are equals when horror and death come calling. I have always enjoyed scary and disturbing tales, from Alfred Hitchcock to Vincent Price to Bela Lugosi and everything in-between–the odder and scarier the better, so this series obviously intrigued me. After each book, I would close the cover regretfully and say to myself that the next book couldn’t possibly get ANY better. But it does. So check out their homepage if you haven’t heard of them yet. And tell me what YOUR scary pick would be.

  1. I’m a Stephen King junkie from way back :). My personal fave is The Shining mostly bc of the ending and the whole, “which came first, the chicken or the egg” paradoxical conundrum. SK at his finest!! I’m def checking out your recommendation, though!!
